The Tootsie Roll company is known for the tagline, "How many licks does it take to get to the Tootsie Roll center of a Tootsie Pop?". History Of The Tootsie Pop

Luke Weisgram invented tootsie pops in 1931. The Sweets Company of America employed him. At a company meeting, he was asked to come up with a new candy idea. A little while later, he took a bite of a tootsie roll and licked his daughter's lollipop at the same time. He loved the taste so much that he proposed the idea to the company, and they went ahead with it. The candy was released to the public after a few minor tweaks. The first flavour of the candy to be released was chocolate. It was a good choice as the chocolate complimented the tootsie roll that was inside the lollipop. There are still new flavours of Tootsie Pops being introduced. Some flavours are permanent, and some are seasonal.
