Hannah was taken by ambulance to UnityPoint Health-Finley Hospital in Dubuque before being flown to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City because of the severity of her injuries. Mitchell Widmaier said his sister had multiple injuries, including broken bones. Still, the most significant was the traumatic brain injury that left her unable to walk, talk or eat alone.

Hannah spent about three weeks in the hospital before moving to On With Life, a brain-injury rehabilitation center in Ankeny, where she has lived ever since. Mitchell moved to Ankeny to be with Hannah.
