As we get closer to the release of FF16 on June 22nd, 2023, it's essential to get to know the cast of newcomers with whom we'll spend many hours as we explore the world of Valisthea and follow protagonist Clive on his journey of vengeance. That is the purpose of this page: to provide you with a pre-release primer on all of the FF16 characters, who they are, and what they're like. All based on pre-release material, so no spoilers.

Final Fantasy 16 Characters

In this section, we'll introduce you to the characters of Final Fantasy XVI while remaining as spoiler-free as Square Enix allows - that is, we won't discuss or feature any information on the characters that haven't been revealed in official pre-release material. We may speculate on the nature of some characters, provided that such speculation is clearly stated.

This will be a 'living' page as FF16 approaches release, which means that as Square Enix reveals more about the game's cast of characters and their roles in the story, we'll update this page and keep it full of detail so that when the game launches, you can jump right into the story feeling ahead of the game.

Final Fantasy 16 Characters Description

Clive Rosfield

Clive Rosfield, the main protagonist of FF16, is the first-born son of the Archduke of the Grand Duchy of Rosaria, one of the game's key locations. Clive's younger brother, Joshua, is chosen to succeed their father as the 'Dominant' of Phoenix, a powerful fiery Eikon/summon. Clive studies swordsmanship in order to protect his younger brother in his dangerous role.

Joshua Rosfield

Clive's younger sibling. As previously stated, Joshua Rosfield is the Dominant of the Phoenix, a title he inherited from his father. The title was expected to go to Clive, but fate chose the Archduke's younger son instead.

Jill Warrick

Jill Warrick, possibly FF16's main female lead, has had a complicated past: she was taken from her home as a political hostage, traded, and held to maintain international peace. Regardless of the circumstances surrounding her arrival in the Kingdom of Rosaria, the Archduke treated her as a daughter, making her a sister figure to Clive and Joshua. She can be seen in the early trailers during the earlier segment of the FF16 story when she is around 12 years old.

Cidolfus Telamon

It wouldn't be a Final Fantasy game without one of these, so it's not surprising that Cidolfus' friends call him 'Cid.' He was a soldier in the Royal Army of Waloed before becoming an outlaw, working to create a haven for those who are persecuted elsewhere in society, such as those with the ability to use magic and the Dominants of Eikons, which includes the majority of this cast.

Torgal

Torgal appears to be Clive's most constant companion throughout Final Fantasy XVI's journey and is also the only party member we've seen Clive issue direct commands to in battle. Torgal will appear as a cute puppy in the game's prologue, but after the time skip, he's a full-fledged, wolf-looking dog with the teeth and fighting skills to make him a formidable ally.

Benedikta Harman

As mentioned in Hugo's profile, we now have a name for the mysterious blonde-haired female tactician we saw in FF16's first trailer: Benedikta Harman. She appears to be a warrior, spy, and tactician as she wields a golden-handled sword.

Hugo Kupka

Hugo Kupka, revealed in the FF16 'Dominance' trailer in June 2022, is an influential figure in the world of FF16, mainly because he is the Dominant of the mighty Eikon Titan. Hugo, too, has the Titan look about him; he's a powerful-looking man with a shaved head.

Dion Lesage

Dion is another member of the main FF16 cast descended from royalty and controls a Dominant. Dion is a skilled Dragoon who leads the order of lance-wielding warriors in battle as the Kingdom's crown prince from which the Dragoon Knights hail.

Barnabas Tharmr

Barnabas' background is distinct from that of many of the core cast members in that, rather than inheriting nobility and wealth, he appears to have earned it. Barnabas commands the legendary Eikon Odin and its horse Sleipnir, known in previous Final Fantasy games for dispatching foes with a devastating blow.
