A 30-year-old marathon gold medallist had set the official record for the 2.4km on 4th September 2021. He is the first Singaporean to run 2.4 kilometres in less than seven minutes. His name is Soh Rui Yong. He announced his challenge through the Facebook post in 2020 about the 7-minute run. This has ignited the spark among the aspirants. By finishing the 2.4 kilometres in less than seven minutes Soh Rui Yong added one more feather to his cap. He is the winner of four national records for 5000 and 1000 meters. On September 4th 2021, he covered the Pocari Sweat Run 2021 2.4km within 6 min and 53sec

Soh Rui Yong threw an open challenge on Facebook to the runners who can break his new record of  Pocari Sweat Singapore 2.4 Run. He also offers prize money of $ 700 and 700 bottles of Pocari Sweat as a complimentary gift to the winner. This event is expected to take place on 9th and 10th October 2021 at the Kallang Practice Track. This challenge was accepted by  Subas Gurung, who belongs to Nepal is a Gurkha runner. Though the challenge was only made to the Singaporeans, Soh Rui Yong was admired by the high spirits of Subas Gurung and he has accepted the challenge to compete against Subas Gurung. Nearly 2000 sign-ups are already made by Singaporeans to compete against Soh Rui Yong. Subas Gurung holds the 2.4km record of 6min 58sec. Will he be able to break Soh Rui Yong’s record and create history? Let’s wait and watch.
