It has been 50 years since we started celebrating Earth Day, this is a day that has been celebrated by billions of people across the world and the aim of this day is to promote awareness for the health of our environment. The same can be seen with Earth day 2022 which is celebrated on 22 April 2022 and falls on Friday. Earth Day History 

The Earth Day 2022 that we celebrate this year is not the first, in fact, it is has been 50 years since we started celebrating Earth Day. The first-ever Earth Day that was celebrated was on April 22, 1970, when 20 million American citizens took to the streets across the city to protest against the environmental crisis such as water pollution, oil spilling, forest fire, air pollution, etc. This sudden protest was a result of the massive oil spill in Santa Barbara, CA. The effects of this spill were observed by US Senator named Gaylord Nelson, who decided to take a stand for the environment in 1970. But it was only in 2009 that the United Nations General Assembly established International Mother Earth Day to be celebrated on April 22 every year.

Earth Day 2022 Theme 

Every year the Earth Day organization comes up with a new theme in accordance with what is happening in the world, the same can be seen this year with the Earth Day 2022 theme which is INVEST IN OUR PLANET. We are moving towards an environment that is irreparable and Unless businesses act now, climate change will ever more deeply damage economies, increase scarcity, drain profits and job prospects, and impact us all. This year’s theme is centered around making businesses and other organizations take the first step toward making the world a better place to live.
