What is the Difference Between Recruitment and Selection?
Now that we know what is selection and what is recruitment, we can now jump into the difference between recruitment and selection. It is not very complicated to distinguish between recruitment and selection. Recruitment is a hiring process where candidates are invited by the company to apply. Here, the candidates are encouraged by the employers to apply for a vacant position in a company. Instead of the regular process where the candidates search for a job, the recruitment process makes the companies and the hiring teams search for a candidate and hire them. Recruitment increases the applicant pool and invites more candidates to apply for a particular job. The primary idea of recruitment is to increase the number of applicants for a company. Recruitment is basically an invitation for the job seekers.
Selection, on the other hand, involves a series of steps to select the right candidate to fill up a vacancy in a company. The selection process rejects unsuitable candidates through different screening tests in order to identify the perfect candidate for a company. Selection involves a series of steps before a candidate is invited on board. Selection is considered to be a negative process, since unsuitable candidates are rejected on the basis of various screening tests. Selecting the most suitable candidate through tests is the most important process of selection-based hiring.
What is Selection?
To understand the difference between recruitment and selection, one must primarily understand what is selection. Selection is one of the very important phases in the hiring process and where the organization chooses the right candidate for a vacant position in a company. In the selection process, the candidates are interviewed and evaluated for their qualities and making sure that they are the right fit for the vacant position and the company. Selection is an important process of hiring a candidate since the right person will act as an asset to the company. The organization will have to make sure that the applicant who might be selected has all the qualifications required for the job vacancy in an organization. The central concept of selection is a negative process since the process involves rejecting many candidates to find the right fit for the company.

What is recruitment?
There are four essential processes of recruitment, include identifying, screening, shortlisting, and hiring. This is a process where the companies hire potential candidates to fill up the vacancies in the company. Recruitment is done both internally and externally. When recruitment is done internally, the process is taken care of by the Human Resources team of a company. Sometimes, a company might depend on recruitment agencies to fill up the vacant positions in a company, and this is called external recruitment. Through recruitment, a company gets productive employees. Recruitment increases the pool of jobs with efficiency and a minimal cost. Recruitment also decreases the probability of short term employees in a company. Though ideally recruitment is done by a specific team dedicated to it, in smaller firms, recruitment is done by different employers and employees.
