Because the farmers in the area sold all of their provisions to the British Army for cash, there was a shortage of food and all that they could afford is was this soup. This soup is prepared with the beef stripe and leftover vegetables and of course with the peppercorns. To mark the specialty of this unique day, every year December 29, is celebrated as the  National Pepper Pot Day.

Celebrated every year on December 29, Mongolia Independence Day, commemorates the great glory and happiness for the Mongols, after gaining freedom from Qing China rule.
