Child With Pneumonia Waits 40 Hours In Ontario ER

A dangerous respiratory ailment forced a four-year-old Down syndrome girl from Ontario to spend approximately 40 hours in the emergency hospital, which her mother finds "absolutely ludicrous" and "awful." On November 9, Jasmine, a resident of Woodbridge, Ontario, claimed she contacted 911 at around 2:30 a.m. Her toddler's fever wouldn't go down, and she was throwing up every hour. According to her, the doctor had the four-year-old take blood tests and get x-rays, which revealed the child had pneumonia. The family was informed the child would need to stay overnight. They were transferred from the examination room to the hallway at 8:00, where they waited for roughly four to five hours. The most prevalent respiratory virus that mostly affects young infants is the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).

Health Minister’s View Regarding Ontario Child’s 40-Hour ER Wait

When word of an Ontario child's 40-hour wait in the emergency room reached Queen's Park on Wednesday, the health minister noted that the province's hospitals have long been overcrowded. During the question time, Sylvia Jones stated, "It is certainly extremely upsetting for all of us to hear stories about parents who have to wait with their children as they get admitted, while they are waiting for that bed to open up in the hospitals." For a four-year-old, spending forty hours in the ER was plainly absurd. In an interview with CTV News Toronto, Jasmine expressed her disapproval of the wait. Eventually, a diagnosis of pneumonia and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), one of the "three primary viral threats" currently posing a threat to the province's already-struggling healthcare system, was made for her daughter. The other two viruses are COVID-19 and influenza.

More About the Story Of 40 Hour Wait Of the Boy

A four-year-old Down syndrome child with a serious respiratory ailment spent almost 40 hours in an emergency room in Ontario, which her mother described as "absolutely ludicrous" and "awful." On November 9, at about 2:30 a.m., Jasmine, a local of Woodbridge, Ontario, claims she dialed 911. Her young daughter was throwing up every hour, and her fever wouldn't go down. To protect her identity, CTV News Toronto has agreed to only use Jasmine's first name. In November 2022, a four-year-old child is sleeping in a temporary bed at Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital. The family was not relocated until another employee noticed the makeshift bed in the room they shared with another teen. The room, according to Jasmine, had a recliner. Jasmine claimed that after receiving the diagnosis, she and her daughter were once more transferred to another room within the ER, where the infant was eventually given a bed. Jasmine slept off in a vacant chair. About 40 hours after making their initial 911 call, at around 6 p.m. on November 10, the family was transferred to a bed in the hospital's general ward.
