Chikka Tirupathi Temple: History

In Dwapara Yuga, Agni Deva was having a severe stomach ache after accepting ghee for 100 years consecutively. He prayed to Lord Brahma for the remedy. For which, Lord Brahma told him to perform Kandava Dahanam, because the forest has natural herbs in it. Agni didn’t want to do this because Indra’s friend Takshak was living in that forest with his family at that time. So, he went to Lord Krishna and Arjuna who then offered Takshak and his family the needed protection. With their help, Agni raised himself as high as possible and burnt the entire forest. Indra tried hard to protect his friend snake Takshak but all his efforts went in vain. Takshak escaped with minor injuries and cursed Agni to lose his divinity. Agni prayed to Lord Shiva for help and Lord Shiva told him to perform penance for Lord Vishnu. Later, Agni was relieved from his curse and installed Lord Vishnu and named him Prasanna Venkateswara Swamy. Chikka Tirupathi temple was built in Dravidian during the reign of Chola Kings in 11th Century A.D. To know the timings of this temple, scroll down further.
