Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel launched Mukhyamantri Suposhan Abhiyan with an aim to tackle the menace of malnutrition and anemia. The CG Mukhyamantri Suposhan scheme will benefit mothers and children. There were over 4.37 lakh, malnourished children, in the Chhattisgarh State at the time of the scheme 's launch, and, according to the WCD department, the figure was reduced to 3.69 lakh by March this year. 

The scheme was launched as malnutrition is a challenge for the Chhattisgarh state and the entire country. The data by the state officials stated that the per capita income in the state has increased in the past 18 years. But the poor became poorer and Chhattisgarh has around 37%, malnourished people. The State government of Chhattisgarh stated that the number of malnourished children has been decreased by 13.97% under the Mukhyamantri Suposhan Yojana on 15 June 2020. The scheme will be implemented by the Women and child welfare department of the state.

Who is the beneficiary of CG Mukhyamantri Suposhan Abhiyan 2020?

CG Mukhyamantri Suposhan Abhiyan 2020 aims to reduce malnutrition in the State. The CM Suposhan Abhiyan will help children aged 0-5 years and for girls and women aged between 15-49 years. The children and mothers will be given a nutritious meal every day. This CM Suposhan Abhiyan is for children aged 0-5 years and for girls and women aged between 15-49 years. The pilot project of the Harik Naani Bera Campaign already began in Bastar.

What are the features of CG Mukhyamantri Suposhan Abhiyan 2020?

CG Mukhyamantri Suposhan Abhiyan 2020 is a state-level campaign. The CG Mukhyamantri Suposhan Abhiyan 2020 has been launched with an aim to eradicate malnutrition in the state. The important features of the CG Mukhyamantri Suposhan Abhiyan 2020 are:

  • The main objective of the scheme to curb malnutrition and anaemia.

  • Under the scheme, the Chhattisgarh state government will provide additional nutrition of eggs, jaggery, and laddu of groundnut twice in a week. 

  • Around 70,000 children and 9,000 mothers will get nutritious meals at various Anganwadi centers in the state. Anganwadis are now extended to the entire state.

  • Preference will be given to local nutritious food.

  • The state government will distribute iron tablets and anthelmintic medicines.

  • Chattisgarh (CG) government will provide free nutritious meals every day as per the identified beneficiary by each of the gram panchayats.

  • Teh scheme will provide fruits, milk, poultry, soyabeans, laddus, bhaji, and other alternative nutritious food that will be given to beneficiaries.

  • Under the scheme government and non-governmental charitable organizations. Anganwadi, Schools, and other distribution centers identified by district administration will distribute nutritious meals.

Survey results of malnutrition in Chhattisgarh

As per the survey conducted in the year 2019, about 9.70 lakh children were suffering from malnutrition. By March 2020, approximately 67,889 children became malnutrition free. It showed a decrease of about 13.79%. This has achieved a major victory in the fight against malnutrition. 

Also, the National Family Survey 4 stated that 37.7% of children under the age of 5 were suffering from malnutrition and 47% of women between the ages of 15 and 49 were suffering from anemia. The report also stated that 9.7 lakh children were malnourished and most of them were children from tribal and remote forest areas.

How is the CG Mukhyamantri Suposhan Abhiyan 2020 implemented?

Under the CG Mukhyamantri Suposhan Abhiyan 2020 campaign, local free nutritious food and hot cooked food were distributed to malnourished women and children in the State. Additionally, supplementary nutritious food was also distributed to the identified children at the Anganwadi center. Iron, folic acid, anti helminate tablets are given to the anemia affected people.

Currently, all Anganwadi and Mini Anganwadi centers have been closed for prevention and control of infection of the COVID-19 pandemic. In order to maintain the nutritional level of children and women amid the crisis, CM has ensured the distribution of ready nutritious food to about 28,78,000 beneficiaries of 51,455 Anganwadi centers in the state with the help of Anganwadi workers.

Also, under the Chief Minister’s Health Scheme of Chhattisgarh, arrangements have been made to distribute dry rations in place of cooked food to the beneficiaries. The CG Mukhyamantri Suposhan Abhiyan 2020 aims to make Chhattisgarh malnutrition free in three years.
