Central Sector Scholarship 2020-21 for College and University Students was  launched in the year 2008 by the Department of Higher Education which comes under Ministry of Human Resource and Development (MHRD) . Central Sector Scholarship 2020-21

The Central Sector Scholarship 2020-21 (CSS Scolarship 2020) is a centrally funded merit-cum-means scholarship launched by the Department of Higher Education,  Ministry of Human Resource Development. The Central Sector Scholarship Scheme is disbursed every year for a total number of 82,000 graduate/postgraduate students and is given in equal proportion  to boys and girls mainly with the aim to provide financial assistance to meritorious and deserving students coming from economically underprivileged families to meet their day to day expenses while pursuing their higher studies.

What is the Eligibility for Central Sector Scholarship 2020-21?

The Student applicant must be there in the top 20 students merit list of class 12 result of concerned boards (SEB/CBSE/ICSE).
The Student applicant should be pursuing regular courses of graduation/postgraduation/professional studies from colleges/universities recognised by AICTE, UGC, MCI, DCI or other regulatory bodies.
The Student applicants belonging to reserved categories of SC, ST, OBC, and PWD will get a reservation of 15%, 7.5%, 27%, and 5%, respectively.
The Student's annual family income must not exceed INR 8 Lakh.
Student applicants should not be availing of any other scholarship benefits.
Students who are pursuing Diploma courses are not eligible for this merit-cum-means scholarship and need not apply.

How to apply for Central Sector Scholarship 2020-21?

Before registering on National Scholarship Portal, students are advised to keep the following documents ready (i) Bank Passbook for filling bank details -3- (ii) Aadhaar card No. (iii) Parent's income certificate (iv) A valid mobile number (v) An e-mail ID (vi)Caste certificate wherever required (vii) Disability certificate if needed. Once the personal details are filled, students are required to select "Post-Matric" from the drop-down menu, and click the "Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship for College and University Students".

What is the period and criteria for renewal in Central Sector Scholarship 2020-21?

The scholarship is renewed on yearly basis for Post Graduate courses in the same stream. For professional courses, the scholarship will be continued until the Graduation level. For all courses, the scholarship would be extended up to five (5) years at most. The renewal of the scholarship is done only if the candidate has met the following criteria:-

(i) Secured 60 % or above marks for the two previous semesters or annual examination that determines his/her promotion to the next class

(ii) maintaining attendance of at minimum 75 % by the scholars

(iii) maintenance of discipline, i.e. the scholars should not have been involved in any ragging activities or anything.

Class XII pass out students of the 2020 academic year, are required to apply directly to the respective State Education Boards/CBSE and submit their renewal/extended application form duly certified from their institutions or schools. The extension of the scholarship is done only if the student has scored 60 % or above marks in the previous exam, having a 75 % attendance minimum, and should have a very good conduct certificate.  The student candidates can apply on National Scholarship Portal (NSP) for renewal of their merit-cum-mean scholarship during the same period when applied for the first time. 

What is the amount for scholarship under the Central Sector Scholarship 2020-21?

The main objective of the Central Sector Scholarship Scheme is to provide financial assistance to the meritorious students who come from weak economic backgrounds, in order to meet their day-to-day expenses while pursuing higher studies.  Once the eligible student list is finalised, a Central Sector Scholarship amount of Rs. 10000/- per annum at Graduation level for the initial three years of College and University courses and Rs. 20000/- per annum for the Post-Graduation level is provided to the students. Students pursuing professional courses are paid Rs. 20,000/- per annum for the last two years.  The selected students will receive the scholarship amount directly into their savings bank account through the Direct Benefits Transfer (DBT) mode.
