Central Excise Day History
The legislation of the Central Excise and Salt Act, which was passed on February 24, 1944, is commemorated on Central Excise Day. The purpose of this act was to make adjustments to the law regarding salt and central duties. It was made up of 11 legislation that dealt with excise charges. In the year 1966, the act was titled The Central Excise Act 1944. The act's schedules 1 and 2 dealt with the duties' values and rates. Previously, excise levies were imposed on 67 different goods. Terror products were then added as the 68th item under "all other commodities not further defined." In 1985, a "Central Excise Tariff Act" was enacted, which was incorporated into the old Central Excise Act 1944, resulting in the creation of an amended Central Excise Act 1944. The Central Excise Officer was in charge of collecting the levied taxes, while the Central Board of Excise and Customs was in charge of enforcing the legislation.
