Former Fox News host arrested on allegations of kidnapping and financially exploiting her mother.
Former Fox News political analyst Cathy Areu was arrested and is now facing criminal charges in south Florida for crimes she allegedly committed against her own mother, including kidnapping and the theft of $224,000, said the authorities.
Areu, who was recognized for presenting a liberal viewpoint during her appearances on Fox News, is also charged with forcing her 88-year-old mother into a nursing home twice against her will.

Why Was Fox News Reporter Arrested?
Areu, 51, is accused of kidnapping, taking advantage of the elderly, and organizing a fraud scheme. She is accused of stealing money from her mother's bank accounts, obtaining her mother's residence through the use of forged documents, and making transactions using a credit card she reportedly obtained in her mother's name.
According to the prosecution, an inquiry into Areu's actions was launched in 2019 as a result of information they had received about paperwork being filed involving her mother's home. The documents had her mother's signatures, which she denied being hers. According to Florida state attorneys, Areu has been evading questioning and arrest since June by traveling to Mexico. Areu was being held without bond at the county jail on Friday.
