Thursday fast generally starts on the first Thursday of Shukla Paksha of every month and should be observed for sixteen continuous Thursdays. The devotee has to worship Guru Brihaspati and Lord Vishnu on Thursday as it is the favourite day of Jupiter. To perform the Puja, one has to observe fast the entire day and must have food only once and that too after the sunset. The devotee has to wake up before Sunrise and after bathing, should wear yellow coloured clothes. The devotee who is performing the puja along with the fast should not wash the head while taking bath on that Brihaspativar vrat day. The devotees should listen or read the fast Katha on Thursday after observing fast. Yellow colour represents Brihaspati and one is supposed to wear yellow colour attire and offer yellow colour fruits Chana dal and ghee as offerings. Observing the rituals strictly will be blessed with luck and prosperity.

  • To perform the Brihaspati Puja we should get up early in the morning on Thursdays and take a bath. During the puja wear, yellow-colored clothes also worship by wearing the same clothes.

  • Then offer water to the Lord Sun, Mother Tulsi, and the Shaligram.

  • Using yellow objects worship Lord Vishnu properly in the temple. Use yellow flowers, yellow sweet, turmeric, gram dal, and yellow rice.

  • On the stem of a banana tree, it is worshiped with the gram lentils. Then offer turmeric water to the banana tree.

  • Offer the Munna along with the gram lentils on the roots of the banana tree.

  • Then light a lamp of ghee and perform aarti for the tree.

  • After that read the fast story by sitting near the banana tree.
