The Government of India under the leadership of Shri. Narendra Modi launched the Ayushman Bharat Yojana on the 23rd of September 2018, to provide free of cost healthcare facilities to  40% of citizens living in the poor and backward areas. People who are economically and financially weak can benefit from the Ayushman Bharat Yojana by availing free medical treatment from a family doctor present in the local primary health centre.

The Ayushman Bharat Yojana turned out to be a hit as the scheme was able to cover around forty-five lakh beneficiaries and 10 crore e-cards have been issued to the citizens and approximately twenty thousand hospitals were empanelled under this scheme. The Indian Government is planning to provide secondary and tertiary health care facilities completely cashless by issuing e-cards.

This e-card can be used in empanelled hospitals public or private in any part of the country by the citizens for cashless treatment.
