Ryan Kelley, a Michigan governor candidate, has been charged with four crimes in connection with the attack on the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021.

Kelley was arrested by the FBI on Thursday at his home in Allendale, Michigan, and was released without having to post bond after his hearing.

Most of the judge's inquiries about his rights and obligations he answered "understood." Although the charges were filed in Washington, D.C., the initial hearing was held in a federal courthouse in Grand Rapids.

According to documents, Kelley was part of a group that attempted to obstruct President Biden's certification as the winner of the November 2020 election. Photos and videos of the revolt that were put online are among the evidence.

Is Ryan Kelley Arrested?

The FBI has arrested a Republican candidate for governor of Michigan for disorderly and disruptive conduct in connection with his claimed involvement in the storming of the US Capitol building on January 6, 2021.

According to the Detroit News, Ryan Kelley was arrested on Thursday morning while his home near Grand Rapids was searched by federal authorities. Kelley was charged with "disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds" in an indictment released by the US district court for the District of Columbia, which is handling the majority of the criminal proceedings stemming from January 6 revolt.

Kelley, a real estate agent, is one of five Republican gubernatorial candidates left in Michigan's primary election, which will take place in August. His arrest throws the election into even more disarray: five other Republican candidates have already been disqualified after being accused of manipulating petitions to get access to the ballot box.

According to the report, the FBI received images of a man dressed in a black coat, a backwards black baseball cap, and aviator sunglasses who appeared to be Kelley from an anonymous source.

Using witnesses, the FBI said it had definitively identified Kelley as the man in the photos. According to the allegations, Kelley was part of the crowd that forced its way into the Capitol, standing on an architectural feature near the north-west steps and waving his hand, signaling "that the crowd behind him should march towards the stairs leading into the UC Capitol building."

Kelley's arrest and conviction came only hours before the first of six televised hearings by a House select committee probing the January 6 revolt. The Republican primary contest in Michigan is in shambles with less than two months until the August primary.
