In the year 1991 FIT launched the idea of celebrating International Translation Day for the recognition of the translation community worldwide. On 24th of May 2017, the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution declaring 30th of September as International Translation Day. The signatory countries of the Draft Resolution A/71/L.68 were Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Belarus, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, Paraguay, Qatar, Turkey, Turkmenistan and Vietnam. Several other organizations advocating the resolution are International Association of Conference Interpreters, International Association of Professional Translators and Interpreters, Red T, World Association of Sign Language Interpreters.
